The Colorguard started practicing new movements after their successful winterguard season. In very little time they filled in big parts of the show and the whole became much more fun to watch, with countless flags, sabres and rifles flying through the air.

The pit had their musical book early compared to previous years. The group could play all music during Easter camp. There was enough time to practice the 32 and 64 runs at tempos up to 200bpm. When the field percussion and brass practice their drill there is plenty of time for the pit to work on their parts. In the afternoon their instruments are moved to the main field and they join the rest of the corps to put everything together.

The battery wanted more challenge and filled in to drum break with some extra parts. They have also added a series of body movement that greatly complement the music they play.

The hornline practiced a lot with arranger Rob Balfoort in May. Every Saturday of that month he worked with the brass section on the musical colours and emotion, in order to make the music more expressive. Rob did climb the scaffold several times to give his advice.

In June the first competitive show performance was in Assen. Beatrix' has a series of prop screens integrated into the drill this year. The fabrics for the screens where ordered and arrived just in time. During the last few rehearsals before Assen, the members had the opportunity to adapt to the props.

There was another issue in the show that needed some attention: the total time of the show was too long. Several adaptations were made in the music and drill. Through these changes the program was shortened and also became more dynamic; a big improvement overall!
Beatrix’ performed a great show in Assen and is working hard for the contest in Huizen on Saturday, June 26th.
